Overalls are certainly not all over

By Angelica Martini (Central High School)

It is a common misconception that overalls are a thing of the past. In fact, overalls have been around longer than most of us reading this have been alive. However, in recent years they have fastened their way into the style blogs and couture catalogs we love. The once “dirty denim” worn by infants and agriculturalists have cultivated themselves to become a main staple in our fall fashion diet.

After they thrived in the 80s and 90s fashion, overalls reappeared in mid-2014 with articles published by magazines such as Elle and Teen Vogue. In June 2014, Vogue published an article entitled “How to Wear Overalls” and described how, just as the title suggests. On fashion blogs galore they appear to be suitable for any style, whether it be street, such as on Danielle Bernstein’s WeWoreWhat blog, or bohemian, such as the Baja East clothing line.

Vernecelyn Allen is a Central High School junior who has been spotted sporting overalls with swagger.

“Recently is when I began to like overalls just by watching old shows and taking an interest to their fashion,” said Allen.

She hasn’t always felt this way. “I would see baby pictures of myself in overalls and tell myself I would never wear them, but my style preferences have changed as I have matured,” said Allen.

After her time spent on Pinterest and YouTube she has been influenced to work with different styles such and has found overalls to be the perfect fit.

Don’t sweat, finding your own fall statement overall is easy. Brands such as Levi’s, Guess, Topshop, J.crew carry different varieties of this fall focal piece.
