Giving truth to Memphis youth
By Osarugue Otebele (Hollis F. Price Middle College High School)
In late March, six of America’s biggest Christian artists came together and rocked out the FedExForum stage. Those four hours of great music are called the Winter Jam.
The 10 artists that graced the stage were Skillet, Family Force 5, Blanca, Building 429, Francesca Battistelli and Newsong. The show was hosted by Tony Nolan hosted the show and it was a crowded house filled with music-loving fans. Each artist performed either something new or their old time classics. I was lucky enough to have a chance to personally see these amazing performances live and they were mind blowing.
For only $10 dollars, a few friends and I got the experience of a lifetime. The invited artists were a true blessing. From balloons, to free t-shirts, scholarship opportunities and even a guest minister, the concert was awesome.
Throughout the concert several prizes were given away; things such as custom made headphones, albums and gift cards. The best part of the night for me was without a doubt the performance by Skillet, where fans were asked to pay whatever they could for an album. This meant that fans could pay as little as one dollar or as much as $20.
The concert was truly a learning experience, where fans got a chance to witness their faith and be a part of something so great. The concert was also a chance for fans to learn about teen mission trips and a summer camp that will include Christian rap artists like Trip Lee and Lecrae.
It was a show that was not to be missed. It was a day well spent getting to see some of the most amazing musicians in the world and one everyone should try to get to next time.
