Sam Smith’s debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ is out now.

British artist, Sam Smith, has announced himself on the American music scene with a touching, soulful album and a gratifying performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Sam Smith’s smash hit “Stay With Me” debuted in May and instantly became a summer hit. It’s haunting, yet romantic, lyrics outline Smith’s desire to end his loneliness and be with a significant other, even if it is just for one night. The lyrics “Won’t you stay with me…’cause you’re all I need” show desperation to not feel alone, even if the feeling is not love. The Londoner takes the listener on a journey of love, loneliness, and the feeling of yearning for love. Smith’s music creativity was inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, and Mariah Carey.

Smith earned his first number one single with his debut with Naughty Boy in “La La La.” “Stay With Me” was number two on Billboard Hot 100. Many people of our generation can relate to Smith as he sings about unrequited love and being hurt numerous times but never being able to fully let go of someone.

Sam Smith makes you think about things you can relate to and he’s just the type of artist you listen to when you need to channel your feelings. Smith has already been praised for his songs and also for his bravery. Smith came out as gay in an interview when discussing his album In The Lonely Hour which is “about a guy I fell in love with last year, and he didn’t love me back.” Gay or straight, we will all go through this at some point in our lives, and Sam Smith is able to capture the love and hurt one feels in this situation with a beautiful album.
